May 12: Porvoo new town
Across the river (the Porvoonjoki) from the old town is a recent residential development, the design of which, by Tuomo Siitonen, is based on the typology of the old storehouses upriver. We went and checked it out.
0666
The new town under some melodramatic cloudage.
0671
A neat sort of paviliony restaurant along the riverbank, on the old town side (the east side).
0678
Crossing over to the new town side.
0680
A look upstream from the bridge. You can see the cathedral behind the masts over to the right.
0682
A bridge tower.
0689
Hyvin pieni koira sanoo "moi!" Niiiiiiiiiiiin söpö!!
0696
A fun sort of cottage-robotic aesthetic. The mostly pedestrian circulation is great.
0700
Nice colors, a good balance between earthy and vibrant.
0707
Various wooden things.
0708
Really like the variety of screens.
0712
Looking back across to the old town.
0716
Just some ol' river reeds.
0725
Back in the old town: statue axis. (Statue-bridge axis.)
0727
The Valiojäätelö penguin bursting out of the water is the Finnish, less urban-warfare version of the Kool-Aid Monster.
