April 11: Korkeasaari 1
After Temppeliaukio we headed on to Korkeasaari (High Island), which although it's very close to Katajanokka as the crow flies, is roundabout to reach by bus.
Well played on the ticket window speakholes.
Looking back from Korkeasaari proper to the bridge across to Mustikkamaa (Blueberry Land), another island where the visitors' center to the zoo actually is.
Sleepy owl. Too bright out not to be.
Peacocks are still pretty great even though I've seen many.
A neat old cage not yet inhabited for the season.
A primate of some sort inside the tropical building.
Bamboo is the best building material.
A toucan whose center of gravity seems too far back to be balanced.
That turtle is all about getting a shell tan.
A rather substantial snake.
Tomato frog! Adorable.
These guys are cute too. I can't remember what they are.
Flamingos' legs look prosthetic, especially the knee bulb.
The symbol of both Finland and Russia, sniffing at a turf.
Slightly sandwiched seagulls.
I wonder if the glass is really strong enough to withstand an enraged bear.
Pergolas through the large-animal area.
