May 27: Sent to Zernez via Klosters

Finally, as the afternoon wore on, it was time to make my way back to Zernez. So I caught the bus from Sent to take back to Ardez, whence I would take the train straight back to Zernez. Simple.

Continuing through Scuol, a familiar sight.

A little bit of Tarasp, a municipality comprising a number of villages on the right side of the Unterengadin. The roof of the foregroundest building is fascinating.

This rock formation indicates that Ardez is nigh. It's a comforting presence, since if the bus goes off the road here, the rock can catch it from falling down the cliff.

Just on the downstream edge of Ardez is this curiously isolated church, which I haven't yet been able to identify.

On the train, sun showing little sign of retreat.

Multimodal meanders at Sagliains, the junction at the Engadin end of the Vereina Tunnel. Here, trains going up the Engadin through Zernez, such as the one I was riding, diverge from trains going through the tunnel to Klosters.

Wait, what?

6522

6522.jpg

Hi Klosters, long time no see! That's right, I had accidentally gotten on the train to Klosters instead of the one going to Zernez. Hey, at least the Vereina Tunnel's open again!

6528

All right, back at Sagliains, about an hour of hilariously wasted time later.

6533

OK now the sun is showing signs of retreat.

6535

Susch (upvalley from Sagliains) blessedly back in view.

6537

6537.jpg

I actually did the whole Klosters detour on purpose in order to be going by Susch at exactly 6:00 so the clock hands would be aligned with the vertical lines of the towers. #not

Forestwall. What is that vertical slice at left? A manmade cut, or could it be the result of a very surgical landslide?

This transmission tower and its siblings are quite distinctive via the square-diamond parts at the base.

Into a tunnel...

...then back out again, and soon after that back at Zernez.
