May 28: Ardez

Luckily, I made it to Ardez with about 15 minutes to spare before the train departed, so I was even able to fit in a short walkabout through town.

Just past the church...

...and a hop, skip, and a jump...

...to get to the station.

A gang of bonsai'd trees under Steinsberg's gaze.

A street of grand patterns.

The sizable church, looking inviting. Sorry, Kirche. Maybe next time.

Ardez seems to be THE place for intense sgraffito. This example is exhilarating!

This one on the left looks familiar...

Ah yes and the infamous steep square.

7652

The square's pavement contains a great collection of curves.

An elevational view of the square, just for good measure.

A plainer but still very attractive street.

OK, best not to push one's luck; time to head back down to the station.

Two walls, two towers.

7662

A rather pillowy half-timbering.
