April 26: Southern Finland tour – Muuratsalo 1

We had special permission to tour the grounds of Aalto's getaway house nearby in Muuratsalo, built in 1953. Muuratsalo is another island, directly south of Säynätsalo.

The path is boardwalked for a ways due to wet ground.

A first look at the house.

The house is called the Experimental House because Aalto et al. used its surfaces for a bunch of cool masonry experiments, as see here.

The sauna crouches in wait behind the birches.

On the way to the sauna, still patiently waiting.

9631

9631.jpg

The sauna, which ingeniously uses the accumulated natural taper of the side logs to attain its roof slope.

9632

9632.jpg

The sauna's cool-off dip spot, probably.

Do I spy another butterfly/spider/whatever truss like at the Town Hall?
