May 29: departure from Zernez

Roll out! Time to bid "a revair" to Zernez and get started on another looong southwestward ride.

The train left before 8AM and I wanted no more close calls, so I got up before 6. At that point, the twilight was still deep.

Stairwell zenviews.

Hmm, looking a mite portentous up there.

A radiance of morning crepusculars.

A cool morning as I set out for the station.

7951

A last look at the extensive Bär & Post complex.

7959

7959.jpg

A last look at the central square. Or, the sky above the central square, mostly.

Good morning, San Antonius.

7970

A nice, rather Art Nouveau sgraffito corner.

Arrival at the station with plenty of time to spare.

Sunrise proceeding down the mountain.

Downvalley, Piz Linard was still bewölkt.

A scant 15 minutes later, the sun had arrived and the train was arriving.

7983

7983.jpg

A sunny look up the Spöl River valley to the southeast as we departed.

7986

See ya, Zernez.

7991

At no point did the clouds cease to be consummately alpine.

7997

Morning riparian cows.

I rode the bicycle car to Sagliains. It was capacious.

8004

At least for a moment, Piz Linard cleared.

A cute fountain in front of the Susch nursery.

So long, Susch.

After a switch of trains at Sagliains, a last glimpse of the Engadin, then back into the Vereina Tunnel — on purpose this time — to head back to Klosters.
