May 21: Utö – bench tour 1

After dinner we grouped up and took a walking tour to all the benches in situ.

Post-dinner bright sun infiltrating through the door at the north end of the hostel.

The sun was still very white even once fairly low in the sky, indicating crisp air.

But once we got going on the tour, it was ruddier.

Ruddy sun on red houses and orange boats.

The village bench in a fleeting period of sun exposure, since the wall behind it is to the south.

The meandering of the road on toward the south.

Coming up to the rocks bench. Can you spot the bench?

2997

Aha! There it is. Much care was taken to shape it to fit snugly in this position.

A shooting shelter, I'm pretty sure that's what this is, next to the big bench rock. Seems like pretty tight quarters though.

A glimpse north toward the village, can you spot the church?

The helipad compound bench in the still-blazing evening sun.

As we walked north from there, the sun went into the radio tower's latticework...

3015

...and then behind the lighthouse...

3016

...and then emerged on the other side.

3018

Passing by a little garden area southeast of the village, by the intersection of the two main lobes of the island.

The undulating way out to the cemetery.

Beholding the new benches and planting boxes as sunset draws closer.

Then we went on to Kattrumpan, so I got one more look at it.

Sky land sea land.

A simply wicked quartz vein this, yes?
